Update: Cronulla Sharks confirmed the signing of James Maloney on Friday.
Sharks coach Shane Flanagan said he will be a good recruit for the club.
“James is a quality addition to our 2016 roster, with his attacking flair and general play kicking first class,” Flanagan said.
“That’s not forgetting he is an elite goal kicker and I look forward to him joining our club.''
Cronulla Sharks are poised to announce the signing of Sydney Roosters five-eighth James Maloney for the next three years.
The goal-kicking five-eighth according to reports has agreed to terms to play with Cronulla.
The Sharks have made no official announcement at this stage.
Maloney, 29, has played for NSW in State of Origin and was a member of the Roosters' team which won the 2013 NRL grand final.
The Sharks are bolstering their halves for next season with incumbent halfback Jeff Robson set to leave at the end of 2015.
Former Sharks five-eighth Chad Townsend, currently with the New Zealand Warriors, is expected to return from New Zealand at the end of this season also re-join the Sharks for 2016.
Townsend is a Cronulla junior playing junior football with Yarrawarrah Tigers.
