Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about being bullied at his posh British boarding school, describing how he was made to "lick the lavatories" and "dragged from [his] bed" by the other boys for beatings.
The former Top Gear host made the revelations in his Sunday Times column, as an introduction to a review of the latest Range Rover.
Clarkson, 55, explained how he hated his time at boarding school, mainly due to the treatment he suffered from his fellow classmates.
"As the years dragged by I suffered many terrible things," he wrote.
"I was thrown on an hourly basis into the icy plunge pool, dragged from my bed in the middle of the night and beaten, made to lick the lavatories clean and all the usual humiliations that public school used back then to turn a small boy into a gibbering, sobbing suicidal wreck."
He added that the older boys at the school "broke pretty much everything [he] owned".
"They glued my records together, snapped my compass, ate my biscuits, defecated in my tuck box and cut my trousers in half with a pair of garden shears, but I made sure when I heard them coming that my watch was safely locked away."
Clarkson started secondary school at Hill House School in Doncaster, which charges £16,500 ($33,789) in annual fees. He later attended Repton School, where a year's boarding costs £31,641 ($64,796).
However, he was expelled from Repton for "drinking, smoking and generally making a nuisance of [himself]".
Clarkson made headlines in March after he allegedly assaulted a Top Gear producer because he was unable to order a sirloin steak during filming.
Following a public outcry in response to the assault, the BBC announced it was not renewing Clarkson's contract, after 12 years on the show.
Clarkson has since said he was feeling stressed at the time of the outburst, which occurred two days after a doctor had told him a lump on his tongue was "probably cancer".
"It was beyond-belief stressful, everything was going wrong and then, you know ... there you go," he told the Times.
"But everybody has stressful days and they manage to cope better than I did."
The incident prompted Clarkson's co-hosts, Richard Hammond and James May, to also leave the show.
The BBC will be relaunching Top Gear this year with a fresh hosting line-up.
British television and radio personality Chris Evans has been confirmed as one of the show's new hosts, although the rest of the panel has not been announced.
