'Landbanking'
It doesn't take a lot of imagination to understand why Woolies wants to open a new supermarket so close to their Menai store, regardless of residents' amenity.
It is simply to keep Coles and the other competitors out. It's got nothing to do with customer satisfaction or service. It's the same reason Woolworths and Westfarmers are landbanking key sites all over Sydney: simply to control the marketplace of Masters or Bunnings stores and limit as much as possible the activities of their competitors.
It is a pity Costco couldn't get up at Taren Point.
