IT IS not unusual for schools to show generous support for a charity.
But senior students at Lucas Heights Community School have gone above and beyond with their fundraiser projects.
Year 12 student leaders drove a campaign to raise money for several charities this month as part of their international Happy Week celebrations.
Students wrote positive messages for people on post-it notes, and plastered them on a school wall.
It was a gesture to symbolise their support for beyondblue, which aims to increase awareness and understanding of depression, anxiety and suicide prevention; The Little Wings Foundation, which flies children in regional and rural areas with life-threatening illnesses to metropolitan hospitals; and for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Students also wore purple to raise awareness for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
Year 12 student Rachel Emanuel said the school raised about $700.
"We have empowered people to understand they are not alone and that people are there to help."
