"I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you".
Manisha Patel sent that text message to her former lover Niraj Dave months before she smothered, strangled, and stabbed his new fiancee, Purvi Joshi, in an act of jealousy and rage.
In the NSW Supreme Court on Wednesday, a jury found Patel, 32, guilty of murdering Ms Joshi in a unit in Bestic Street, Kyeemagh, in the early hours of July 30, 2013.
Patel put her head in her hands and sobbed after the verdict.
A female solicitor comforted her, and stroked her hair when the court adjourned, before she was taken away by two prison officers.
Ms Joshi was found dead with bruising on her neck, a swollen face and a knife sticking out of her abdomen.
"She had a knife stuck in her side, I pulled it out and I called you," a panicked Mr Dave told a triple zero operator after he found her body that morning.
Crown prosecutor Huw Baker told the court the sounds of Ms Purvi's death were so loud they woke a close neighbour.
"She heard a woman screaming. She said it sounded like it was coming through her bedroom."
The screams lasted for 10 minutes but stopped for a few seconds intermittently.
The court heard Patel killed Ms Purvi, 28, between 3.17am and 4.22am, then drove to work at Sydney Airport from where she called Mr Dave.
She called him once to talk about an exam, then to talk about how she was watching movies on her laptop.
The court heard Ms Purvi was killed a month after she had moved to Sydney from India for love.
She had been to English class that day and was making plans to marry Mr Dave in November 2013.
But before she arrived in Australia, the court heard her fiance had drunken sex with Patel.
Defence barrister Scott Corish said his client admitted to killing the Indian student but did so in self-defence.
He said that Patel had gone to visit Ms Purvi, because she had been begged to do so.
Ms Purvi had just found out about an abortion Patel had, and wanted more details.
"Can I make one thing clear? Manisha Patel killed Purvi Joshi," Mr Corish said more than a dozen times.
"She defended herself and it tragically ended in Purvi's death … It wasn't murder".
But the jury rejected the self-defence argument, and Patel will be sentenced for murder on September 10 before Justice Helen Wilson.
