Greece's future in the eurozone may depend on it - but the referendum to be put to a vote on Sunday threatens to bamboozle most ordinary Greeks with its ridiculous complexity.
Greek citizens will be asked to decide whether they accept an agreement put by the European Union, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund - even though that offer is no longer on the table. The leftist Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras has urged voters to say no.
But to make an informed decision, people will need to wade through a 34-page translation of two convoluted and lengthy documents that outline the proposals, before voting yes or no.
Not only are the documents confusing, the Greek translations contain some serious errors, as identified by Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal.
The original document discussed three paths that the Greek debt could take, including two that it said were "sustainable".
Alarmingly, the Greek translation says the opposite - stating these two paths were "unsustainable".
Commentators have expressed some doubt about whether most people will even make it to the 34th page of the document to find this badly translated sentence.
As a second-generation Greek Australian, I could barely make it through the first page. The Greek translation was impenetrable. The English-language version was unfathomable. Phrases like "eliminate reciprocal and non-reciprocal nuisance charges" had lost me.
Even allowing for a serious lack of intelligence on my part, experts on economic and tax matters have also declared an inability to understand the two original documents, let alone the 34-page Greek translation. So what hope do 11 million ordinary Greek citizens have of understanding whether to accept these complex economic proposals?
"Seriously, it's not language that is really conducive to a quick explanation down the taverna is it?," says Tim Worstall, writing for Forbes, after pointing out sentences like this one:
"Amend legislation on installments to among others exclude those who fail to pay current obligations and introduce a requirement to shorten the duration for those with the capacity to pay earlier and market-based interest rates; The large debtor unit and KEAO will assess by September 2015 the large debtors with tax and social security debt above 1 million EUR to verify their capacity to pay and take corrective actions".
After it defaulted on its International Monetary Fund loan repayment, the IMF warned Greece it needed an extra 50 billion euros over the next three years, including 36 billion from its European partners, to stay afloat.
With so much at stake, the only thing I can say is Kali Tyhi Καλή Τύχη (good luck) on Sunday.
