Sutherland's new $19.6 million rail commuter car park had a quiet start when the gates were opened early today, July 6.
It was still three-quarters empty at 9am.
Only one of the three upper levels set aside for the use of commuters was used heavily.
There was just one car on each of two other levels and the fourth level was empty.
By contrast, the old multi-level car park, which is slightly closer to the railway station, was very popular with cars parked on all levels.
The new car park is certain to get much greater use when the school holidays end and more commuters learn about it.
Leaflets advising it was open were being distributed at the station.
The new car park has 388 spaces for commuters and 84 for members of Club on East (previously Sutherland United Services Club), which had leased the site to Transport NSW.
