Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club will be exempt from council development application fees of almost $18,000 for its proposed regional centre of excellence at Cronulla High School.
The Sharks International Water Polo Academy and Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club have secured an agreement with the Department of Education for the redevelopment of land there.
This will be part of the $3 million playing fields and sporting complex built by Sharks developer Bluestone Property Solutions in partnership with Cronulla Sharks, Cronulla High School, Cronulla-Caringbah Junior Rugby League Club, Cronulla Water Polo Club, the NSW Department of Education and Cronulla-Sutherland Junior Rugby League.
The project includes three fields, a clubhouse and the Sharks junior academy, and the future aquatic centre for water polo.
Stage one of the project — the sporting fields, junior league clubhouse and gym, car parking and access to Captain Cook Drive — opened last March.
This allowed Cronulla-Caringbah Club to shift to the new clubhouse from its long-time headquarters at Endeavour Field at the end of last season to make way for the Sharks' big Woolooware Bay development.
Stage two, the water polo centre, will include a training pool, main water polo pool and car parking.
Sutherland Shire Council agreed at its June 29 meeting to waive the fees.
The state government will also be asked to waive $10,900 in fees.
