I don't agree that the council should disperse the flying fox colony.
Whether we believe it or not these creatures are listed by the federal, NSW and Victorian governments as vulnerable.
Although they appear plentiful, their total population has dropped by one-third in just 10 years.
The council should look at other ways to protect people and properties e.g. using shadecloth.
And by the way, when was there a case of lyssavirus or hendra virus reported in the shire? Answer: never.

Re: $850,000 to move flying fox colony.
Not a moment too soon. I'm fed up with the time, cost and inconvenience these pests bring. I live a kilometre away from the bat colony "as the bat flies".
I have to spend half an hour every morning walking around my backyard with a kettle of boiling water to wash away their poo, which is deposited on the pavers, pool coping, fencing, fascia boards and wall cladding.
Last year I had to replace the Permalum cladding since the finish was destroyed by bat poo. In the warmer months they also make a lot of noise at night.
I see them only as pests and cannot understand why they should be protected.
