St George Illawarra Dragons players do not want a black mark on the club history books.
The longest losing streak has been six (2013) since the Dragons formation in 1999.
The Dragons tackle Melbourne Storm at 5.30pm AEST on Saturday, July 25, at McLean Park, Napier, New Zealand.
It will be a record seven successive losses if the Dragons lose.
The Storm thrashed Penrith 52-10 last weekend in Melbourne.
The Dragons are ninth on 20 points — one win from eighth and the Storm are fifth (22 points).
‘‘We just have to keep working hard,’’ said Dragons winger Jason Nightingale.
‘‘We have to keep working for one another and stick at it.’’
Nightingale said the return of key forwards from injury — Tyson Frizell, Joel Thompson and Jack de Belin — would help.
Dragons skipper and prop Ben Creagh said the team had to ‘‘muscle up’’ in defence.
‘‘We really pride ourselves on our defence,’’ Creagh said.
‘‘We have done so much work on it, going back to last October, and we don't want to throw all that away.’’
Melbourne Storm have been a stumbling block for the Dragons — winning 21 out of 29 games, with one draw — since 1999.
Can the Dragons break their six-match losing streak against the Storm?
