HURSTVILLE Council is about to start work to transform the streetscape along Forest Road in Hurstville CBD, between Queens Road and Rose Street.
The council appointed QMC Group to commence the Forest Road Streetscape Project Stage One.
Hurstville mayor Con Hindi said QMC Group had recently completed the new-look Pitt Street Mall in the Sydney CBD.
"It is anticipated the revitalisation of Hurstville's CBD will be the catalyst to promote more opportunities for outdoor-dining experiences for the long term," Cr Hindi said.
"As part of this plan to attract more outdoor-dining opportunities potentially, council could propose in the future a free three-year lease agreement to entice business owners in Forest Road to support outdoor-dining opportunities."
Cr Hindi said the multimillion-dollar project included new paving, street lighting, recycling garbage bins, landscaping, street furniture and tree plantings.
He said the council would soon start discussions with the Forest Road business community to keep them up to date with the latest information and schedule of works as the project progressed.
Work is expected to start in August and be completed in eight to nine months.
Work would take place after 8pm to minimise disruption to the community and businesses.
Is this a good move?
