Flying fox costs
I could not agree more with the comments of HT of Oyster Bay re bat control (Your View, July 14).
Anyone who has not been frequented by the bats and has not had to continually clean up after them on a daily basis really has no concept of the devastation they leave behind.
I have a large fig tree which the bats love to attack when in fruit.
I applied to trim the tree with part of the reason given in the application to council being the bat problem.
While council agreed, also included in their response was, the statement that when the tree ceases to fruit the bats will go away.
The sheer genius of that remark defies belief.
On more than one occasion my green bin has been left behind due to the weight. The contents were the massive amount of bat droppings and only following complaints was it emptied.
Not only do the bats have no place in the vicinity of schools, they have no place in metropolitan areas. If we must consider the flying foxes, relocate them to the to the national park where vegetation is abundant.

What a waste of ratepayer money to spend almost a million dollars trying to disperse the bats, which nobody wants in their backyard. Why not just let the shooter club in there. Problem solved.

Good on councillor Tracey Cook for expressing what the majority of people feel about the ongoing bat problem in the shire.
The fact is they carry a deadly virus, they are a threat to children and there is no point in tip-toeing around the facts.
