MIRANDA police have chosen some unusual pets for their station — forgoing the usual fish and dogs for chickens.
Thelma and Louise have found a safe home at the station, with a comfortable roost near the waiting area.
The pets were the idea of Superintendent Michael O'Toole, who bought the chickens more than six months ago.
Since then they have proved a hit with officers and the public who can watch the chickens through a glass wall.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported recently that several Sydney companies have been quietly welcoming canine companions into their offices.
Dogs in the office can make employees more productive.
Patrick Schmidt, chief executive of online fashion house The Iconic, brought dogs into the office because he noticed they were not included in public life in Australia to the same extent as in Germany.
"It is good for productivity. Ultimately, the distraction is usually somebody petting a dog, which usually leads to a conversation between different people from different departments," he said.
"It may be a distraction but ultimately it is helpful."
Do you think there should be more pets allowed in work places?
