DEWET Roos says he loves the challenge of playing in big games and the Southern Districts first grade rugby union halfback is ready for this Sunday's semi-final against fourth-placed Sydney Uni at Forshaw Rugby Park, Sylvania Waters.
Roos, 25, has played just 40 minutes of footy over the past month.
But he said he is "fighting fit". The South African-born footballer has the glint in his eye that of a lion.
Under the Shute Shield system, Southern Districts, who finished third, and the highest-ranked losing team gets two chances if beaten.
The Rebels were upset 17-16 by the Pirates on Saturday at Concord Oval.
Roos, forward Marcus Carbone and fullback/centre Paul Asquith will all be on deck together this Sunday.
Roos was not selected in the original team last week against West Harbour, but he got a late call-up and played half a game.
"I came through the game OK; my right hamstring felt good," Roos said.
A month ago he tore the hamstring and it felt as tender as a piece of sirloin steak.
"My hamstring is fine now, I needed to play before the finals," Roos said.
"Playing a home semi is a big advantage with a big crowd. Sydney Uni are a very expansive team in attack but also very physical."
