Rockdale City Suns have climbed into the National Premier League’s NSW Men’s 1 top five for the first time this season after downing rivals Sutherland 3-0 on Wednesday night.
The Suns welcomed Sutherland to Ilinden Sports Centre looking to make their big move towards the finals and had the lead inside 20 minutes.
Marko Jesic gave Rockdale a 1-0 half-time lead before a stunning Patrick Savor strike from distance and a Mitsuhiro Iwamoto goal sealed the three points after the break.
Rockdale were humiliated 6-2 at Seymour Shaw Park when the teams met back in round seven in April but gained revenge for that defeat when they eliminated the Sharks from the FFA Cup.
The win saw Rockdale jump to fifth and Sutherland slumped to 10th.
The Suns will look to make it seven games unbeaten when they host South Coast Wolves on Sunday.
Kick-off is at 5pm.
Sutherland travel to Marconi on Saturday night.
Kick-off is at 7.30pm.
In a big week for Rockdale, the Suns host Perth SC in the FFA Cup round of 32 on Wednesday night.
