Dan Hunt’s knee injury has forced the St George Illawarra prop to retire from the NRL.
Hunt had injured his knee in the 2015 Auckland Nines competition in New Zealand.
“It is no secret that I have been struggling with injuries during my career and unfortunately the injury sustained in the pre-season has been career-ending,” said Hunt.
“My left knee cannot withstand the strain that comes with playing first-grade on a regular basis.
“It is not a decision or day that any rugby league player looks forward to.
‘‘However, after several extensive discussions with the club’s medical staff and independent surgeons, this decision is the right one to make for my long-term well-being
“I am grateful to have had the chance to represent my childhood club and it feels like only yesterday that I put on the jersey for the first time.’’
The Dapto junior, who made his first grade debut in 2007, had played 150 matches for the Dragons and had played for NSW Country Origin in 2011 and the Prime Minister’s XIII in 2012.
