A team of engineering, planning and design contractors has been chosen to design the Sutherland to Cronulla shared cycle-pedestrian link.
Shire MPs Lee Evans, Eleni Petinos and Mark Speakman said in a joint statement management consultancy group Mott MacDonald, which had extensive experience in active transport links, had been awarded the engineering and urban design contract.
"They will team up with planning approvals consultants Eco Logical Australia and surveying consultants Cardno Hard and Forester," the statement said.
"This team has the skills and capability needed to progress the project and provide the community with a design that will best connect shops, schools, public transport and the beach for cyclists and pedestrians.
"Work will start immediately on finalising the route using both the rail corridor and the local road network.
"Specialist ecologists will form part of the team to assess any vegetation improvements or impacts and will work with the urban designers to ensure the link is sensitively integrated into the local environment.
"As part of the design process, community groups, residents and cycling and walking groups will be consulted to ensure we produce the best possible outcome for the community."
