RESIDENTS have embraced ANSTO's plan to rid Sutherland Shire beaches and waterways of debris.
They have collected 20,000 pieces of plastic and selected samples have been sent to ANSTO to be tested with nuclear instruments.
Researchers will study how plastics break down and how they affect the environment.
