SOUTHERN Districts have set up an elimination final encounter with defending premiers Eastwood this Sunday, August 9, at T.G. Millner Field, Marsfield.
The 2.40pm game will be a replay of last year's grand final, when Eastwood defeated the Rebels 33-13 at Concord Oval.
The winner will advance to the grand final on Saturday, August 15, at Concord Oval.
Manly play Sydney University in the other elimination final this Saturday at Manly Oval.
The Rebels came from behind to defeat University 28-26 in a thrilling semi-final last Sunday at Forshaw Rugby Park, Sylvania Waters.
Down 20-3 at half-time, the Rebels staged a huge comeback, scoring three tries to snatch an unlikely win from the clutches of defeat.
Early in the second half University extended their lead to 23-3, with a penalty goal.
But then three tries in quick succession to Alex Gibbon and Feluela Finau bridged the gap to just one point.
With the students leading 26-25 in the final minute, Rebels five-eighth Jordan McGregor booted a pressure penalty goal from 35 metres out to put the home side in front to win the match.
Southern Districts 28 (Alex Gibbon 2, Feluela Finau tries; Jordan McGregor 3 penalty goals, and two conversions) defeated Sydney University 26 (Patrick McCutcheon, Jim Stewart tries; Angus Roberts 4 penalty goals and two conversions).
