St George Illawarra Dragons halfback Benji Marshall has been named to tackle Brisbane Broncos tonight, August 14, at Suncorp Stadium but he will have to pass a fitness test.
Marshall left the field with a slight tear in his right hamstring in the 19th minute of the 36-0 win over the New Zealand Warriors last Saturday, August 8, at Westpac Stadium.
Dragons coach Paul McGregor will not make a final decision until the 7.45pm start.
Five-eighth Gareth Widdop is No. 7 and backrower Jack de Belin is five-eighth.
The Broncos are the NRL competition leaders on 34 points and the Dragons are seventh on 24 points.
The team have played each other 33 times since 1999; Broncos in the lead with 19-14.
The last time the Dragons won in Brisbane was round four in 2009; Wayne Bennett was their coach.
Bennett returned to the Broncos as their coach at the start of 2015.
The Dragons won the round seven clash, 12-10, on Friday, April 17, at Jubilee Oval.
McGregor said the two latest wins — against Warriors and Knights — were built on a belief that can carry his side through the remaining four rounds of the NRL season.
‘‘When it comes down to character, football builds character, and the boys turned to each other and found something," McGregor said.
‘‘They will take a lot of belief and confidence out of that, that’s for sure.
‘‘It’s all right to do that now but we’ve got to do it continually and have the same commitment and desire and belief against the Broncos because they are a good football team.’’
