THREE young shire women have recently founded a boutique independent theatre company which premieres its first original show next Tuesday (September 1).
The women include Sarah Furnari, 23, of Burraneer and a former Caringbah High School student, and Brit Gorrel, 21, of Como, who went to Jannali High School.
The two met in 1999 while attending a dance studio at Como School of Arts and are both graduates of Wollongong University.
A third company member, Sam Dowdeswell, 23, has only recently moved to the shire from regional central Queensland following acting training in Melbourne and New York.
The three decided to set up the theatre after being involved in a number of creative projects which were directed by other people.
The play they are producing is an attempt to create something that people could experience, feel immediately part of, and immerse themselves in.
Audience members are seated at the dinner table with the actors and become involved in the action happening around them.
The idea sprang from a discussion the trio had about pet hates — things people do at restaurants that annoy or offend, whether this is texting, open-mouth chewing, talking too loudly or about unsuitable topics.
Not at the Dinner Table is produced by Short Poppy Theatre as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival from September 1-5 at PACT Erskineville at 7.4 5pm.
