SUTHERLAND Shire Reconciliation will continue its educational series on the history and culture of the Dharawal-speaking people who lived in the Sutherland shire and beyond before white settlement.
The next "Journey into Understanding" will be on Saturday, September 5, 9.30am-3.30pm, at St George-Sutherland Community College, Sutherland Road, Jannali.
Dharawal knowledge holder Les Bursill will discuss his research into Shoalhaven, Campbelltown and Appin prior to 1815.
Researcher and contributor to the Sutherland Shire Aboriginal Advisory Committee, Bruce Howell, will look at the challenges of finding the true meaning of Dharawal words as so many have either been lost or given many explanations and interpretations.
Retired university lecturer from Wollongong University, Mike Donaldson, will make a presentation based on his research and knowledge of the Aborigines from the Illawarra.
