Tributes have flooded in via social media for a much-loved primary school teacher who was described by many in her community as a ‘‘wonderful teacher.’’
Marisa Cochrane, 57, a year 5/6 teacher at Yarrawarrah Public School, died last Friday night. She was critically injured when the Ford Laser she was a passenger in was hit from behind by a Mazda2 on the Princes Highway on June 7.
The Laser left the roadway and hit a tree, trapping the woman and her husband, 60, inside.
Her husband remains in St George Hospital in a stable condition.
Her pupils and their parents left bunches of flowers at the school fence on the weekend.
The Mazda2 driver , a 22-year-old Maroubra woman, was not injured but recorded a positive roadside breath test.
She was arrested and taken to Sutherland police station where she returned a reading of 0.090.
She was charged with mid-range drink-driving and her licence was suspended.
She will next appear at Sutherland Court on September 24.
The Metropolitan Crash Unit are investigating and extra charges could be laid.
