IT’S not uncommon for surfers to be dropped-in on while catching a wave at their local surf break, but the last thing Cronulla surfer Jesse Horner was expecting as he took off at Kurnell’s infamous Cape Solander was to be joined on his ride by a dolphin.
Photographer Ian McDonald, sitting at the ready in the right place at exactly the right time, said he had seen lots of whales and birdlife off the Kurnell cliffs, but the dolphin leaping in the wave face was a first for him at this extreme surfing spot.
Every wave caught at this cliff face reef has its dangers, so Jesse didn’t mind the unexpected company.
