Another day of sweet 4-6 ft South swell so make the most of it; waves everywhere for about the 15th day straight. The winds are offshore and the tide's coming in and filling the rip channels up and down the beach.
Wanda was big and empty this morning with Midway being the pick, lefts and rights with half a dozen guys out trying to grab a good one. The Alley had its moments with 20 guys scratching for everything that didn’t close out.
It’s been head high and offshore for weeks with last Thursday being an epic day to be a surfer. I couldn’t see any of the usual morning surfers today so I assume they were elsewhere and with the wind swinging to the North I know where that would be!
Swellnet forecasts a complex weather system for the rest of the week with a drop in wave size tomorrow and then it’s back with an 8ft new south swell due to turn up on Friday morning. Lucky I fixed my 7’6’ I might need it. This doesn’t look to last long with the weekend being left with 3/4 footers.
This should bide well for the running of the 27th Northies “Alley Masters”- to be run and won on Saturday,so if you're around pop down the Alley and have a look.
Red Bull Cape Fear was set to bring the top ‘slab’ riding specialist to one of the world’s most challenging and dangerous waves in Sydney, but yesterday marked the end of the official waiting period. Big wave surfer and Contest Director Mark Mathews said the optimal surf conditions never came through to give the contest the green light-“Unfortunately, we are out of time for Red Bull Cape Fear in 2015.
For the future, promising professional surfers from all over the world can look forward to four new World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 1000 events, when the NSW Pro Surf Series kicks off on the NSW coastline in early 2016.
Thanks to a successful partnership between Surfing NSW, WSL, Destination NSW and NBN Television, four events (male and female) are slated to take place at Maroubra Beach, Cabarita, Avoca and Boomerang over the next three years.
“We anticipate the NSW Pro Surf Series will become the ideal stepping stone for surfers who aspire to compete in higher ranked events - but may not necessarily have a high enough seed to gain entry - as well as some of the world’s best who want to fine-tune their act, prior to the WSL Championship Tour getting underway in March,” said CEO Mark Windon.
The NSW Pro Surf Series was announced today at Avoca by Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch, alongside current WSL Championship Tour surfer Glenn ‘Micro’ Hall as well as aspiring Avoca surfers Lennox Chell, Sandon Whittaker, Finn Hill and Kirra-Belle Olsson and recent Quiksilver Uluwatu Challenge champion Jared Hickel (Cronulla, NSW).
Meanwhile the famed cobblestone break of Lower Trestles will host the world’s best surfers for the upcoming Hurley Pro and Swatch Women’s Pro, which hold a competitive window of September 9 - 20, 2015.
Alongside the WSL Top 34 and Top 17 the events will see a return of the WSL Heritage Series with a women’s heat and a men’s expression session. The WSL Heritage Series, which is designed to celebrate and honor the icons of the sport, will recommence at Lower Trestles for the first time this season.
The first-ever women’s Heritage Series event will see three World Champions and icons of the sport, Layne Beachley, Lisa Andersen and Sofia Mulanovich, take to the water during the Swatch Women’s Pro for a historic battle.
The event will also include a Heritage Series Expression Session where five legendary male surfers will showcase their extraordinary skills during the Hurley Pro at Trestles. The heat will feature surfing icons Shaun Tomson, Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, Simon Anderson, Michael Ho and Cheyne Horan. They will be supported on the broadcast by surfing legends Mark “MR” Richards, “PT” Townend and Ian “Kanga” Cairns.

Finally, Australia’s best young shredders will light up beaches around the country when the Subway Surf Series returns for its second year - to support the nation’s best young surfing talent - along with a new and exciting association with the World Surf League (WSL).
The 10-event series will include seven qualifying Subway® Pro-Juniors and three non-qualifying Subway Surf Series events-EVENT 10 will be held at Cronulla, NSW – April 30 – 1st May, 2016.
