RUSSIA and Engadine are worlds apart but the two places come together in the personae of a Russian-born flautist who is also The Metropolitan Orchestra's principal, Svetlana Yaroslavskaya.
The musician now lives in Engadine and on Saturday will play Re-Inventions with Sydney's The Metropolitan Orchestra in the city.
The piece was originally written for recorders and strings, and this Sydney concert is from the pen of Russian-born Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin.
Kats-Chernin uses the structures and melodies of Bach's Inventions for her own Re-Inventions work.
Saturday's show will be the first time all six Re-Inventions will have been performed live.
The orchestra's chief's conductor Sarah-Grace Williams will conduct.
The second half of the evening will continue the Russian atmosphere by featuring Rachmaninoff's Symphony Number 2.
The Met Concert will be performed at the Eugene Goossens Hall, ABC Centre, 700 Harris Street, Ultimo, this Saturday, September 5.
