ARNCLIFFE RSL remains open despite plans to close its doors on August 31.
In recent years the club has had a rocky path — almost closing its doors in 2012 before it was amalgamated with Bexley RSL Club.
In July Bexley RSL general manager Anton Dworzak confirmed the club would close with financial pressures to blame.
"When we began the amalgamation Arncliffe RSL was in financial distress. If it wasn't for Bexley's contributions in 2012 following major storm damage at Arncliffe the premises would have closed right there and then," he said at the time.
"Unfortunately, it's come to a point where to continue would be detrimental to the main club and the group as a whole.
"To continue to trade from the Arncliffe venue would require major capital injection with little hope of making a return on investment.
"The reality is that the Arncliffe region cannot sustain two clubs within 950 metres of each other."
One member, who didn't want to be named, went to the club on Monday expecting to say a final goodbye only to be told that the club would stay open.
"They said it was staying open for the forseeable future," he said.
Mr Dworzak confirmed on Tuesday that the closure had been delayed.
