That is how residents have described the condition of Bardwell Creek after sewage ran into the nearby waterway.
It's believed that the sewage was the result on an overflow in Downey Street at Bexley.
The sewage has led to a unbearable smell and dozens of dead eels and fish litter the water and nearby banks.
Rockdale resident Michael Mohan has been cleaning the creek himself for 12 years and first spotted the problem on Friday.
‘‘The water is like a washing machine in mid cycle,’’ he said.
‘‘There’s no birds, there’s nothing. It is lifeless.
‘‘You would not believe it. The smell is just horrific.’’
He has since contacted Rockdale Council, Sydney Water and the NSW Environment Protection Agency.
A Sydney Water spokesman said they were alerted to the problem on Saturday night with crews fixing the problem on Sunday.
He said crews only reported a small amount of run off entering the creek.
