As Sutherland Shire Council has a new mayor (Leader, September 29) let's hope he will seriously consider implementing more bushfire hazard reduction programs around our suburbs.
It is shaping up to be a hot, dry summer. As a resident of East Heathcote I can't remember when the last hazard burn was done here.
Perhaps consideration could also go to stop building excess cycleways and save some hard-earned taxpayers' money.
Other options for saving our money would be to do away with the costly Mayoral Ball, and an end to costly "council managers bonding session day" at Sharkiies.
This day is said to have included a treasure hunt where each participant was given a map which directed them to a park in Sutherland where the secret prize was hidden. The "prize" being a rolled up Leader newspaper — priceless way to spend the day.
