Talent: A Sutherland Public School pupil Amelie Brown has excelled in a national creative writing competition.
YEAR 5 pupil Amelie Brown impressed judges in this year's Whitlam Institute's What Matters? competition.
The annual contest was open to children in years 5 to 12 across NSW, the ACT and Tasmania.
Pupils were asked to write a story about something important to them.
Amelie wrote about her cousin Ben, who died of type 1 spinal muscular dystrophy, a genetic disease.
She was the stage 3 winner for her category, the overall winner, and the youngest winner in the largest field of submitted entries. School principal Leah Woolley said Amelie wrote with sophistication and wonderful emotion.
