ST GEORGE first grade cricket team share the competition lead with five teams after two rounds with a thumping one-day win over UNSW on Saturday at the Village Green.
They secured victories in the opening two rounds of the Sydney Cricket Association competition with limited overs fixtures triumphs over Penrith and UNSW.
UNSW won the toss and batted first, making 9-209 from their 50 overs, with skipper Trent Copeland taking 4-31 from his 10 overs.
St George cruised to victory scoring 2-210 off 44.4 overs with 32 balls to spare.
NSW fast bowler Copeland has overcome the back stress fractures that restricted him to just seven overs bowling last season.
St George lost opener Stewart McCabe (8) early but fellow opener Steve Cazzulino (80), NSW batsman Kurtis Patterson (92 not out) and Trent Copeland (14 not out) guided the team home.
Left-handed batsmen Cazzulino and Patterson put together a sizzling 184-run partnership.
Cazzulino struck eight fours in his 128 ball innings while top scorer Patterson hit 11 fours in his brisk 121 ball, time at the wicket.
St George District Cricket Club president Kevin Greene said the team has performed well in their opening two rounds of the season.
"It is an encouraging start from the first grade team and from a club perspective we had four wins from the five grades against UNSW on Saturday," Greene said.
St George also lead after two rounds of the Kingsgrove Sports Twenty20 Cup with two wins.
In round three, St George play Western Suburbs at Pratten Park, Ashfield.
It's the first two-day game of the season; play starts 10.30am.
SECOND GRADE: UNSW 4-218 (Raza Rizwan 71, Matthew Lacey 2-37) defeated St George 9-214 (Mattew Baden 85).
Sutherland 3-230 (Chris Williams 78, Peter Saroukos 47 not out) defeated Fairfield Liverpool 217 (Zach Johns 56, Jason Hayward 3-43, Nathan Whittingham 2-34, Tom Pinson 2-44).
THIRD GRADE: St George 5-147 (Luke Stanton 54, Rodney Krause 29 not out) defeated UNSW 144 (Freddie Ruffel 37, Peter Francis 6-32, Nicholas White 2-34).
Sutherland 8-221 (Josh Horner 79, Sigbhat Khan 44) lost to Fairfield Liverpool 7-227 (Sean Dalliston 64, John Starkey 44, Alex Watkiss 4-42).
FOURTH GRADE: St George 7-237 (Nick Schurmer 69, Matthew Grealy 54, Matthew Stanton 1-54) defeated UNSW 101 (Ankit Patel 26, Nathan Anderson 4-19, Aaron Royall 3-23).
Sutherland 3-171 (Daniel Grant 67, Matthew Parker 49 not out) defeated Fairfield Liverpool 120 (Rohan Indap 45, Matthew Bord 2-43, Ryan Thompson 2-16, Jayden Brown 2-22).
FIFTH GRADE: St George 8-200 (Jackson Shaw 55, Joshua Sullivan 38) defeated UNSW 5-199 (Philip Hood 91, Paul Witherly 3-55).
Sutherland 7-310 (Luke Miller 87 not out, Shaun Thornton 86) defeated Fairfield Liverpool 168 (Daniel Marshall 41, Elijah Bagnall 2-43, Harry Tattersall 3-34, Pat Driscoll 2-33).
