THE fifth annual Medibank Wave Junior Challenge is back in Sutherland Shire on Saturday, October 10.
Former ironman champion Zane Holmes puts together the series at various locations throughout Australia.
Wanda beach is the venue for the event featuring nippers from Wanda, North Cronulla, Cronulla and Elouera surf life saving clubs.
nippers aged from nine to 15 can enter.
The swim leg is 120 metres, the board leg 120 metres and the sprint 100 metres. Iron is a mix of swim, board and sprint.
Two of Wanda Surf Life Saving Club's youngsters Josh, 11, and sister Jade Tattam, 9, of Caringbah, said they are excited to compete in the event on Saturday, October 10.
"I remember Wave Warriors last year being great fun," Josh said.
"It is a competition but a fun one though, you don't have to be so serious all the time.
"There were beach volleyball nets set up to muck around with your mates in between races, which my mates and I spent a whole lot of time in.
"Wave Warriors was great fun."
Jade agreed that it's terrific for the nippers to have the opportunity to compete at Wanda Beach.
"The Wave Warriors was great fun because it wasn't a serious competition, so there was time to enjoy the events and have fun with your friends," Jade said.
The Wave Warriors event starts at 9am and will be preceded by the Medibank Ocean Swim Run from 7am to 8.30am.
The ocean swim and run is open to everyone from five to 60 and comprises a 200 metre swim and two kilometre beach run.
Holmes said his goal is to create a unique ocean and beach spectacular for junior surf lifesavers.
