Sutherland’s Steve Smith has wasted no time getting among the runs with a century for NSW in his first innings of the Australian summer.
The national one-day competition started at grounds across Sydney including Hurstville Oval where Western Australia took on South Australia.
Australian hopeful Cameron Bancroft smashed 176 for the Warriors while Shaun Marsh notched 109 as Western Australia amassed 4-350 from their 50 overs against the Redbacks.
At Bankstown Oval, Smith scored 143 not out from 122 balls for the Blues against the Cricket Australia XI.
The Australian captain enjoyed a 112-run stand with St George batsman Moises Henriques (48) as NSW made 3-338 from their 50 overs.
Nic Maddinson also made 108 for NSW.
Sutherland’s 19-year-old spinner Riley Ayre was not included in the Cricket Australia XI despite being in the 14-man squad.
Hurstville Oval will also host games between the Cricket Australia XI and Victoria on Wednesday and NSW against Tasmania next Monday.
