Tinder's got a brand new feature - the "super-like".
It's the equivalent of The Bachelor's coveted "white rose".
When swiping right just doesn't cut it, you can now swipe-up to intimate to the stranger whose carefully cultivated image has popped up on your smartphone screen that you don't just like them, you "super like" them.
The term "super like" sounds like some lame new ploy by reticent partners to weasel out of using the Big L-word:
A conversation between matches could go:
"I love you."
"I, I, errrr…. I super like you?!"
But Tinder may be banking on the new feature solving its casual hook-up image.
Since its launch in 2012 Tinder users could swipe right with abandon to connect with potential dates, or dismiss them with a flick to the left.
But the super-like feature can only be deployed once per day. Users with a paid Tinder Plus account will be able to swipe up fives times per day.
For users who score a 'super like', a small blue star will appear on the profile of the person who swiped up.
This could spell the end for users who 'game' the system by swiping right on every profile they come across- a tactic most common among men, according to countless pub confessionals wherever Tinder users congregate.
A Tinder spokesperson refused to confirm that the super like was created to put an end to chronic right-swiping when asked by Quartz, simply saying the feature provided the "additional functionality that our users have been asking for".
"We've seen Super Like have a meaningful impact on Tinder Plus conversion," Tinder CEO Sean Rad told TechCrunch.
"And that stems out of the value that people are getting from the Super Like."
The smartphone app creators have been cultivating a more wholesome brand image in recent months.
Tinder's Twitter handle has been retweeting posts from users crediting the app with their long term, committed relationships.
"Two years ago, we #swipedright and two months ago we got married. We would never have met with you [Tinder]. Thanks!" read one tweet.
The smartphone dating app released the 'super like' after piloting the new function in Australia in September.
Early results showed users were three time more likely to be matched with someone they super-liked, and conversations that began with an up-swipe lasted 70% longer than a right-swipe-initiated conversation, according to Tinder HQ.
