COMMUNITY is the heart of Roselands shopping centre.
No longer the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere, marketing manager Marina Majeran said the centre's rich history made it unique.
"It has many regular customers who have being coming here for many, many years because they feel a connection towards the shopping centre," she said.
"It's a traditional shopping centre that allows the customer to come first."
As Roselands marks its 50th anniversary, there's even more to celebrate, with development plans now lodged with Canterbury Council.
Ms Majeran said the centre had been asking for feedback from customers, retailers and neighbours since April.
"The proposed significant expansion and major redevelopment will ensure Roselands is a premier regional shopping destination in Sydney's vibrant south-west," she said.
"The plans also include an entertainment and leisure zone with a proposal for a cinema complex.
"Independent economic modelling done on Roselands' development submission forecasts the creation of approximately 1700 new retail jobs in the shopping centre and 1300 construction jobs, providing significant short and long-term economic benefits for the local community."
The development application will be available for public consultation in October via canterbury.nsw.gov.au and at the council's offices.
Ms Majeran said reaching the 50-year milestone was a wonderful feeling.
"Roselands is still here and the essence of Roselands is still the same," she said.
"The customers and the community surrounding Roselands is the heart of the centre, which has definitely helped to withstand the test of time.
"We would like to thank the community for all the fabulous support that we have received; the connection, the loyalty, the generations of families continually telling us 'Roselands we love you'."
