SUTHERLAND Shire singer Cass Greaves believes her debut album conjures up a land of voodoo, intrigue and mystique.
The title of the album, He's Whiskey in a Tea Cup, reflects her love affair with New Orleans.
"The album is a sultry guitar-driven melee of soulful sounds," she said.
"The tunes, rich in textural layers and tuneful content, transport you to another place, far from the glistening beaches of Sydney's south."
The chanteuse spent time in America's home of jazz in 2012 and said this inspired her to write songs and weave them into stylistic nuances throughout a sultry sounding album.
"In New Orleans I found my soul and blues and it has had my heart ever since," she said.
The singer received the support of some of New Orleans' finest musicians while she was there and at venues including the House of Blues and Tipitina's.
Back at home she has worked alongside some of Australia's best known jazz aficionados, including James Morrison, Ed Wilson and Emma Pask, and has also performed at the Darling Harbour and Manly jazz festivals.
He's Whiskey in a Tea Cup will be released on Friday, October 9, at Gingers, The Oxford Hotel, Darlinghurst.
