A COLLECTION of traditional recipes from older members of the Indian community with ingredients varied to make them healthier will be launched at Hurstville on Sunday.
The Resourceful Australian Indian Network (RAIN) will launch the recipe book during the Right as RAIN Well-being Cafe & Bazaar, held in association with the Discovery Festival of Community Arts organised by Hurstville Council.
Those attending are encouraged to wear red sarees to represent the heart and heart health, particularly among Indian sub-continent women.
A South East Sydney Local Health District survey found Indian women had a high prevalence of heart diseases, diabetes and blood pressure problems.
The bazaar will feature a cafe, a traditional Indian healthy recipe competition, a yoga session by Veda Srinivasan and a meditation session by Dr Gunu Naker.
Entertainment will be provided by Vijay Jogia and the Vijanthi group of dancers along with members of the the Hindi School, Kogarah.
The event is a partner of the free and private neighbourhood website, neighbourly.com.au, which is owned by Fairfax Media.
The RAIN event will be at Marana Auditorium, Hurstville Entertainment Centre, MacMahon Street, Hurstville on Sunday, 10am-2pm.
