If the world’s bowlers thought Steve Smith was bored with scoring runs, they should think again.
The Sutherland superstar led his NSW team to a comprehensive 156-run win over South Australia in the Matador Cup on Thursday at North Sydney Oval.
On the back of a punishing 143 not out against the Cricket Australia XI to start the national one-day competition on Monday, Smith continued his strong start to the summer with 72 to help the Blues to 9-266 from their 50 overs.
Smith’s Sutherland teammate Shane Watson made 12, while St George all-rounder Moises Henriques produced three boundaries and a six in his 35.
In reply, it was Mitchell Starc who ripped through the Redbacks, taking 4-27 to help bowl South Australia out for 110.
The win gave NSW their second comfortable victory in a row to start the series.
The Blues take on Western Australia at Blacktown on Saturday before clashing with Tasmania at Hurstville Oval on Monday.
