SUTHERLAND Shire Cycling Club has returned for the 2015-16 season with a new twilight racing series which started on Friday at Waratah Park.
The club also held an open day for families and riders of all ages on Saturday afternoon at Sutherland.
Sutherland Shire Cycling Club public relations officer and keen cyclist Erica Galea said the opening night of twilight racing went well.
Galea said boys and girls, men and women of all ages can join the club.
"Behind the club we have a purpose-built mountain bike track," Galea said. "We have a lot of mountain bike riders at Sutherland."
Galea said they held a trial road criterium race and a short distance mountain bike race at the open day.
"The kids really love the mountain bike racing," Galea said.
Galea said the open day was in line with Cycling NSW's Sydney Ride Festival promoting the sport at NSW clubs.
She said Sutherland has promising road and mountain bike riders in their ranks — Emily Cunningham and Amanda Porter.
"Emily has had some amazing results recently and is targeting the Tour of Bright in December," Galea said.
"Amanda Porter is a mountain bike rider and top prospect."
