THE future is looking even brighter for Menai's Jessica Olson, who overcame cancer to fight to fulfil her ambitions.
The university student received $2000 as part of this year's Redkite and Coles Dare to Dream scholarship program.
The program encourages people to pursue education, career and life goals that are sidelined because of cancer treatment.
The aspiring journalist was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2011.
"When I was diagnosed with cancer my education came to a halt," she said.
"I missed an entire year and felt like I was so far behind in terms of learning."
She has been in remission for almost four years and is now studying a double degree in journalism and communications at the University of Wollongong.
"I'm proud I didn't let cancer hold me back," she said.
The scholarship will help pay for tuition and educational resources, including a laptop and textbooks.
Redkite and Coles gave 38 scholarships this year to young Australians aged between 15 and 24 and who have or had cancer.
Coles state general manager Thinus Keeve said he was impressed with Jessica's determination.
"When we reviewed applications we were looking for young people who had a strong vision for their future," he said.
"We're proud to help support courageous young people like Jessica and give them an opportunity to take control of their future."
