On a recent Thursday around midday I was walking on the pedestrian bridge over the Georges river between Como and Oatley, when a Sydney Water vehicle drove past me. I did not hear the vehicle until the last second before it passed as it came from behind me, and it did not give a warning beep. I was quite startled and it missed me by only about six inches as the bridge is narrow.
I understand that maintenance needs to be carried out on the bridge, but I found this very distressing as I could have easily been hit.
I did not expect a car to be travelling on the bridge, and it was travelling a lot faster than I would have deemed safe for a pedestrian bridge. I would say it was travelling in excess of 15km/h.
My advice to everyone is just because you are on a pedestrian walkway don't think you cannot be run over.
