Well-kept gardens? We need to change our culture to improve the work/leisure balance. Most workers in OECD countries work shorter hours than Australian workers.
In-your-face McMansions? As a solution, I suggest that council regulates to encourage planting of large shade trees — on private blocks as well as on the street verge.
This will temper the starkness of the contemporary building style and, as a bonus, would reduce reflected heat from paved areas.
