FIFTY crews took to the water for the 18th annual Garie Surf LifeSaving Club Dash at Horderns Beach, Bundeena, on Sunday.
Garie SLSC president Pat Dillon said the 2015 renewal attracted 200 surf boat crew members from 14 clubs.
They were Cronulla, North Cronulla, Wanda, Elouera, Port Kembla, Helensberg-Stanwell Park, South Maroubra, Coogee, Wonoona, Era, Bondi, Corrimal, North Wollongong.
Garie and Burn Palms SLSC also held a nippers carnival, for 100 boys and girls, aged seven to 12, at Horderns Beach.
‘‘A few years ago we had 72 surf boat crews but it was good to get 50 this year and the event went well,’’ Dillon said.
Cronulla SLSC won the open men’s dash, with North Cronulla second and Corrimal third.
In the open women’s surf boat race, North Cronulla won with Elouera second and Coogee third.
Coogee SLSC won the reserves race with Era second and North Cronulla third.
North Cronulla won the under-19s men’s surf boat race with Wanda second and Stanwell Park third.
North Cronulla (A) won the under-23s men’s from Cronulla and North Cronulla.
The under-23 women’s event was won by North Cronulla (A) with North Cronulla (B) second and Corrimal third.
The novice sweeps award went to David Smith, of Coogee, and the ‘‘Monty Mutt Memorial Race’’ was won by Bondi women’s under-23s team.
