PAUL Gallen, the Hayne Plane and even a member of the World Cup-winning All Blacks made an appearance at Sans Souci Public School on Thursday to raise awareness for Football United.
Students dressed as some of their sporting heroes and wore their own sport uniforms as part of a student representative council initiative to support Football United.
The organisation looks after refugee and disadvantaged children by providing social engagement programs, multicultural harmony and support using community football.
Football is one of the most popular sports among students at Sans Souci both at home and in the playground, making it the perfect vehicle to engage students with the program.
As well as supporting Football United, the event aimed to raise awareness of childrens' social inequity.
Year 5 pupil Angelina said the children had enjoyed supporting the day.
"I feel this day was really important to our school because Football United is about children helping children who are disadvantaged for things we have," she said.
"Our SRC likes to fundraise for special occasions like this."
The students were also treated to a visit from the Football United mascot, Nutmeg the wombat, who is best remembered as the mascot for the 2015 Asian Cup, won by the Socceroos on home soil in January.
The money will fund a team from the school to compete at the Football United tournament at Sydney Olympic Park in December.
