It's summer time and the living is easy-it’s a pity the full moon /1.9 m high tide made this morning’s good swell a little unpredictable.
The swell was a good size up the beach and the banks were just hanging in there and spitting out some nice offshore waves. It picked up yesterday from the south even though the wind was howling from the nor-east.
Swellnet forecasts this swell to hold for the rest of the week with the waves peaking early Thursday before a southerly change is due during the day and we are looking at a morning of north-westerly winds preceding the change.
Friday’s conditions look likely to be bigger at 4/5ft but with south east winds so it could be a bit funky. The weekend drops the bundle a little with the swell dropping to 2ft with nor east winds, nor west on Sunday hopefully.
I took todays pics at Wanda where it was twice as big as North Cronulla but super crowded and pretty inconsistent-perfect summer conditions!
Its smaller in Hawaii where the wait continues for the final stop of the 2015 Samsung Galaxy Women’s Championship Tour at Honolua Bay for the Woman’s Target Maui Pro. Day 4 of the two-week event window showed no increase in wave height as the world’s best await the ever-looming commencement of Round 1.
Meanwhile at Sunset and the Vans World cup, Its day 1 of 13 and its also a layday-no North swell anywhere. Connor O’Leary’s fate is in his own hands and he needs to get through the 4th round to gain points-He can do it!
In the last contest for the year and less than a week to go until the Taiwan Open of Surfing hosted by Taitung County Government gets underway, competitors from both short and longboard disciplines wait in anticipation, as the forecast looks promising for the opening days of the waiting period.
With this year’s Taiwan Open of Surfing being upgraded to a QS1,500 event there are QS points to be had-If Connor won the event the points wouldn’t be enough to help him qualify. He has to go big in Hawaii.
Bruce Irons (HAW), former elite tour competitor and Pipe Masters Champion (2001), has been allocated a position in the upcoming Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons, the final stop of the 2015 Samsung Galaxy WSL Championship Tour (CT).
The Billabong Pipe Masters (December 8 – 20) in Memory of Andy Irons will determine the 2015 WSL Champion amongst the six remaining contenders: Mick Fanning (AUS), Filipe Toledo (BRA), Adriano de Souza (BRA), Gabriel Medina (BRA), Owen Wright (AUS) and Julian Wilson (AUS).
Finally a year after becoming World Longboard Champion, Australian Chelsea Williams is looking to make it back-to-back wins the 2015 Jeep World Longboard Championship presented by Wanning.
Having finished runner-up for the Title four times in the past, taking the number one spot last year was a huge relief for Williams who will arrive in China for this year’s event feeling far more relaxed than previous years.
“It feels different this year,” Williams said. “I feel like this massive weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I’ve always put so much pressure on myself to win but it’s gone now, I feel so much more relaxed and can't wait to surf my heats without that pressure and just have fun.”
I want to have fun also-see you next week!
