SYDNEY Water has given Cronulla Wastewater Treatment Plant a colourful facelift that includes a series of murals.
To create the works, Sydney Water commissioned Street Art Murals Australia, a non-profit organisation working with youth groups to prevent graffiti.
Plant manager Rob Aurisch said the community was asked to submit design ideas.
"We were delighted to receive such a positive response and the final designs chosen reflect the Cronulla community and the natural landscapes and fauna and flora in the local area," he said.
"We have recommenced school and general tours at the plant, [and] the murals will brighten the atmosphere and improve the public's interaction."
The final mural designs include a green and golden bell frog, a seahorse, the Cronulla Surf Lifesaving Clubhouse, a surfer riding a wave, the Wanda sand dunes and several native flowers.
Sydney Water manager — people and places Paul Mulley said: "Sydney Water has run similar successful programs across Sydney, the Blue Mountains and the Illawarra and the Cronulla artwork project is an expansion of this program".
Artists were Giles Fryer (aka Silver Lines), Jan Birkner (aka Krimstone) and Scott Naggy.
