ROCKDALE Council marked White Ribbon Day, November 25, with a group oath in the council forecourt in Bryant Street.
About 70 men — councillors, staff and a few passers-by — swore to "stand up, speak out and act to prevent men's violence against women". White ribbons were available for a gold coin donation.
Rockdale mayor Bill Saravinovski said he was committed to the campaign to end men's violence against women. Money from the council Christmas party in December would go to church groups which ran programs to help women experiencing violence. The council is also sending out the messages on its garbage trucks: "There's no excuse for violence against women. It's rubbish".
White Ribbon Day, on November 25, is Australia's only national, male led campaign to end men's violence against women.
