Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash involving a car and two heavy vehicles at Mascot on Wednesday night.
Two heavy vehicles were travelling south along General Holmes Drive about 11.15pm. People at the scene told police as the trucks approached the merge with Southern Cross Drive, a small silver hatchback drove towards them on the wrong side of the road.
The lead truck braked and tried to avoid the hatchback. The second truck travelling behind has collided into the rear of the lead truck.
Police said the hatchback did not stop after the collision and was last seen driving away with its lights off.
The driver of the second truck – a 53-year-old man - was trapped in his cabin and rescued by police and Fire and Rescue NSW.
NSW Ambulance Paramedics took him to St George Hospital with serious injuries to his right leg. The driver of the lead truck was uninjured.
The Crash Investigation Unit and RMS Heavy Vehicle investigators are investigating and police urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.
