Beach-goers and cafe patrons at Brighton-Le-Sands are being warned they will be fined and have their cars towed away if they ignore clearway restrictions.
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) began operating a mobile electronic message sign on Tuesday following complaints clearway restrictions are being flouted, particularly on hot beach days.
The sign advises south-bound motorists on The Grand Parade of the 3pm-7pm no-stopping restrictions.
An RMS spokeswoman said, in another measure, extra clearway signs would be installed between Bruce Street and Bay Street this month.
The spokeswoman also responded to claims it often took more than an hour to move cars because only one tow-truck was used.
‘‘A number of tow trucks are on standby in the Brighton-Le-Sands area to respond to advice received about vehicles illegally parked in clearways,’’ she said.
The spokeswoman said motorists could report vehicles parked in a clearway to the Transport Management Centre on 131 700.
Does RMS need to do more?
