After years of negotiations, it looks like a Rambo television series is finally headed for the small screen.
Fox this week ordered a script for the iconic Sylvester Stallone action hero franchise, giving a home to the project which has been in development since 2013.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sylvester Stallone will produce the series titled Rambo: New Blood, slated to explore the troubled relationship between John Rambo and his son, J.R.
But will Stallone reprise his role as the troubled Vietnam War veteran?
According to Deadline, it remains unclear whether Stallone will star in the series at all, although sources suggest the door has been left open for him to do so.
In 2013, the actor's agent shot-down reports he would reprise the iconic role for the small screen.
The 69-year-old has played Rambo four times over the past three decades and is writing the screenplay for a fifth film, titled Rambo: Last Blood, which he will also star in.
Stallone debuted as the special forces soldier in 1982's First Blood, before returning for First Blood Part II (1985), Rambo III (1988), and Rambo IV (2008).
The films centre around John Rambo, a special forces Vietnam War veteran who suffers PTSD upon his return to America and is engaged by the government in top secret missions.
The franchise took $US300 million at the box office in 1985 for First Blood Part II, but only grossed $US113 million for 2008's Rambo IV.
Stallone also recently reprised his other iconic character champion boxer Rocky Balboa for critically-acclaimed Rocky spinoff film, Creed, which is currently in cinemas.
